Bible Study Hour

Start @ 9:00 am

Introduction

Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church holds We believe the Bible to be God’s infallible, inerrant, Holy Word to man. We believe it to be authoritative on any and all issues it touches, including history, science and the cosmos, to the extent to which it speaks. We believe the Bible to be the source of absolute truth whereby our beliefs, morals, and laws should be based. This means that on both a corporate and personal level, when we see a difference between our thinking, attitudes, or actions and God’s Word, we must change to be obedient to God. Each Sunday, we gather to engage in thoughtful discussions on what the Bible teaches through Bible studies and literature related to matters of faith. This is an opportunity to connect with others and grow spiritually. Unlike the worship service, these sessions offer a more interactive environment, allowing a more profound experience with believers for the Glory of God.

Classes

Neighboring and Evangelism

Spiritual Growth/Discipleship Bible Study led by Jim Walker & Mike Crawford. Handouts will be provided weekly. We all know Christians are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. But with the culture we live in and our own life distractions, sometimes even our most important priorities can get neglected. Neighboring and Evangelism is offered for those who are sensing a desire to better see and relate to the world we live in like Jesus, and for those who would like to be mutually encouraged with other believers as we learn more about this Biblical directive of loving our neighbors for the glory of God.

Theology Part 2

Studies in Theology 2 led by John Edwards, & Sam Bennett. Our textbook, Wayne Grudem's second edition of Biblical Doctrine, (Essential Teachings of the Christian Faith) is basically a condensed version of Grudem's Systematic Theology, which is required reading in many courses on biblical theology. The book will be available through the church for $10; it is the same book used for the first session that was offered in the fall of ‘24. It is not required that participants have taken the first session. This class emphasizes the scriptural basis for each major doctrine discussed, and provides clear writing and a contemporary approach, which makes it an indispensable resource for many Christians. We encourage those who are wanting a strong Biblical foundation for future Bible study and teaching to have and be familiar with this resource.

I AM Statments

John, Jesus said "I am" - Basic Bible Study led by Ron Spellman & Bob McGinnis, Workbook Provided (Curriculum by Grace Bible Church, College Station, TX.) Throughout history there have been many varying opinions and ideas about the person of Jesus and who He is. This study focuses on what Jesus said about Himself, His identity, and his purpose.

Genesis Part 2

In-Depth Bible Study led by Steve Robinson & Jeremy Pruett. Class books by Jen Wilkin will be available through the church for $10. Genesis, Part 2 studies Genesis 12-50, and, being an independent study, it does not require that participants have taken Genesis Part 1. This class will walk through the stories of the fathers of our faith - Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Participants will discover how God is working everything together for His glory and for the good of His people.

More Details

The Bible study session begins at 9:00 am. During this time, our attention is centered on a specific book or subject within the Bible. Our purpose in studying the scriptures is to enhance our understanding and relationship with God and others. The goal is to cultivate both our intellect and our emotions, enabling us to glorify God.

“that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

— Ephesians 3:16-19
